Qualified teachers Simon Rowe and Phil Stutely have broad experience as creative practitioners in the fields of photography, music and video production. They have both worked extensively in mainstream, further and higher education as well as alternative provision and youth work. They have successfully led accredited BTEC, GCSE, A Level, UAL and Arts Award courses over the last twenty years.
SkillMix is a London based social enterprise that focuses on young people who are facing challenging circumstances. We offer early intervention audio and lens-based media projects that are Arts Award accredited. SkillMix also conducts action research in order to produce new knowledge, strengthen partnerships and share best practice.
Within schools and colleges SkillMix offers projects in which students take part in music, audio, photography and video activities culminating in a showcase of their work celebrating their skills, achievement and commitment.
In the community SkillMix offers one to one mentoring and wellbeing support to children and young people that helps them address some of the challenges they face and signpost possible progression routes into education, employment or training.
SkillMix works towards students gaining Discover, Explore,
Bronze and Silver Arts Awards according to students' needs and the project being delivered.
Our methods aim to empower students through mentoring in restorative approaches, the use of tools that students can use to measure their well-being and the delivery of a unique creative learning experience designed to involve parents, carers, teachers and others including professionals that are part of the students' 'network of allies'.
SkillMix is keen to develop and committed to working with others including educators and researchers in order to promote best practice, evaluate projects, produce new knowledge and share findings.
